More nurses to be recruited

COLOMBO: Health Care and Nutrition Ministry will recruit 1,000 new nurses for training before the end of January next year. This was under the instructions of Health Care and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said 1,500 nurses have already been recruited under `Recruiting 15,000 nurses within three years' programme.

Another 3,500 nurses will be recruited soon. But only 2,500 applicants have met the required qualifications. Therefore the Ministry has decided to recruit another 1,000 nurses under walk-in-interview basis.

Health Care and Nutrition Ministry invites applicants who are between the age of 18 and 30 with a height of 4'10 for walk-in interviews.

They should be Advanced Level Examination qualified by 2005 with three passes in the Science stream and should also have passed Ordinary Level Examination with six subjects including four credit passes for Mathematics, Science, Sinhala and one more subject.

The Ministry has made arrangements to conduct the interviews from January 15 to 30 next year.

If required number of eligible applicants from the Advanced Level science stream do not turn up, steps will be taken to give a chance for the applicants who have qualified in Advanced Level arts stream.
