Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing at the Information Department yesterday, Yapa said the construction of these 4,089 houses have come to a standstill due to lack of roofing sheets.

Cabinet approval has been granted to purchase 181,924 roofing sheets at Rs. 250 million. Services and funds will be obtained from the Plantation Human Development Trust to purchase and distribute roofing sheets. A total of 10,530 estate houses are to be built within this year.

A total of 20,000 people of Dehiaththakandiya will receive clean drinking water through this water supply scheme.

The project within the Dehiaththakandiya Pradeshiya Sabha in the Ampara District, Eastern Province was initially designed and constructed by the Mahaweli Authority in 1984 and the people living in the town area obtained water from this scheme while people live in suburbs obtained drinking water from other sources such as canals.
