Ceylinco's sophisticated Cancer Treatment Centre rises above ground
NEW PROJECT: The six-storey Ceylinco Cancer Treatment Centre, a Rs.
500 million investment will bring to the country the latest equipment
and techniques for cancer treatment, including Brachytherapy (short
distance radiation treatment) and Radioactive Iodine Treatment.
A concrete bunker with walls 1.5 metres (4.8 feet) thick and an even
thicker concrete slab under construction in Colombo 2 barely gets a
second glance from passers-by who are unaware that in a few months time,
this unique structure will be the heart of the most advanced private
cancer treatment facility in Sri Lanka.
Almost 90 per cent complete, this 1600 square foot bunker built to
precise specifications approved by the Atomic Energy Authority will
house Sri Lanka's first Linear Accelerator, the 'Gold Standard' in the
delivery of accurate, intensity modulated radiation therapy for the
treatment of many forms of cancer.
"We are making good progress with this ground-breaking project," said
R. Renganathan, Deputy Chairman of Ceylinco Healthcare Services Ltd., (CHSL)
the Ceylinco Life subsidiary that will own and manage the Centre. "On
completion in August 2007, it will be the benchmark for private cancer
treatment in Sri Lanka." |
