SLT top in Asia soon, promises new CEO

COLOMBO: Arrangements are under way to make Sri Lanka Telecom Limited (SLT) a leading communication centre in Asia, Sri Lanka Telecom Limited's New Chief Executive Officer Shoji Takahashi said.

Takahashi who met Posts and Telecommunications Minister D.M. Jayaratne last week, said SLT will expand its service to meet customer demands and reach company goals.

"Foreign telecommunication service networks will also be developed using trade connectivity between Sri Lanka and India," he said. Minister Jayaratne said he has discussed with an Indian company to introduce low cost communication towers to Sri Lanka's communication industry.

Land will also be considerably low since the tower will only be a concrete pillar, the Minister said. Jayaratne said plans will be made in the future to stop constructing many communication towers in the same area by telecommunication companies.
