SLFP-UNP committee to meet regularly

COLOMBO: The SLFP-UNP committee tasked with the implementation of their recent MoU will meet at least once in two weeks and open an office in Parliament to streamline their work, it was revealed yesterday.

In a joint statement issued yesterday, the two parties said two secretaries will be appointed to facilitate coordination. The UNP's secretary will be Bradman Weerakoon while the SLFP will name their secretary this week.

The committee members agreed that priority should be given to evolving a solution to the ethnic problem that would be acceptable to all.

These decisions were taken following a committee meeting held yesterday at the Parliamentary complex in Kotte.

The SLFP was represented by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Maithreepala Sirisena while the UNP was represented by MPs Karu Jayasuriya, Joseph Michael Perera and Rukman Senanayake.

Political victimisation and good governance were among other subjects taken up during yesterday's meeting.
