Budget passed

KOTTE: The budget proposals for the year 2007 were passed in Parliament yesterday with a majority of 142 votes.

All political parties represented in Parliament except the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) voted in favour at the third reading of the budget proposals taken up yesterday.

Among the parties which voted in favour of the proposals were the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), United National Party (UNP), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU).
