Death for teacher for infant 's murder

KURUNEGALA: A school teacher was sentenced to death for the murder of his one and half year old daughter by Provincial High Court Judge Kurunegala Tuder Gunaratne yesterday.

The Attorney General indicted R. H. M. Senaratne with committing the murder of his daughter on February 1, 1999 at Nikaweratiya Manapaya.

State Counsel Chamath Deleepa Pieris told the High Court Judge, on the day of the incident Senaratne quarrelled with his wife and later dashed the baby on the floor.

The baby died on the spot. The prosecution had proved that the teacher was guilty for his daughter's murder.

Doctors also told Court that the man was not suffering from any mental disease.

The Judge sentenced Senaratne to death by hanging.
