KOTTE: JVP Parliament group leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday
urged the President and the Government to proscribe the LTTE as a
terrorist organisation and quit the Ceasefire Agreement immediately in
the aftermath of the LTTE's failed attempt to assassinate Defence
Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Making a special statement in Parliament Wimal Weerawansa pointed out
that both the country and the Government will be in a big danger if the
Government do not take an immediate decision to ban the LTTE and to
disintegrate from the Ceasefire Agreement.
"It is our firm belief that any room given to the Tiger terrorist to
conduct their terror operations while enjoying the benefits of the peace
process will be a rolling of red carpet for them to execute the next
suicide attack."
"Therefore, without any further delay, President and the Government
should take steps to proscribe the LTTE and to disintegrate from the
Ceasefire Agreement without allowing the LTTE to capture 'golden
opportunities' for their terror acts while engaged in this false peace
process," Weerawansa added.
There won't be any other chance to take this decision which has not
been taken when Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar was assassinated
when LTTE made an aborted attempt to assassinate Army Commander Lt. Gen.
