Kitulgala rest refurbished

INVESTMENT: The new management of Kitulgala Rest House has invested Rs. 5 million to upgrade the property and to introduce several new features.

All 20 rooms are to be air-conditioned and already 9 rooms have been refurbished to meet the present requirements.

The hotel one of the oldest in the Sri Lankan tourism history has earner a name for its popular buffet and the management has decided to extend the dining facilities to accommodate 250 guests.

"We would be building a new restaurant upgrading the facilities," said the manager Oliver Liyanage. In addition, conference facilities too would be expanded to attract more business travellers. The hotel is also a honeymoon destination and we would introduce more packages for them, he said.

He said that a karaoke lounge too would be introduced and a new gymnasium.

The new management said it would also introduce river-dining facilities, white water rafting, mountain biking, bird watching, jungle tracking, baby care and many other facilities.

The actors and actresses of the Acadamy Award winning "The Bridge on the River Kwai" which was released in the year 1957 lodged at the Kitulgala Rest House.

"We hope to sell the DVD version of the film and are currently negotiating," he said.
