Trishaw driver gets 7 years RI for not preventing accident, causing
death

COLOMBO: Colombo High Court yesterday sentenced a three-wheeler
driver to seven years rigorous imprisonment for not preventing an
accident and causing death to two persons.
Colombo High Court Judge Upali Abeyratne convicted the three-wheeler
driver P.G. Nandana Piyatissa for running the vehicle at high speed and
not taking preventive measures to prevent the accident at Angoda on
February 18, 2002.
The accident caused the death to A.D. Edward Perera and M.G. Bandula
Abeywickrama while M. Lionel Perera suffered severe injuries.
The Attorney General's Department filed the indictment on three
counts.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 41,000 and another 15 months
rigorous imprisonment in default.
State Counsel Madawa Tennakoon and State Counsel Chathurika Silva
appeared for the Attorney General.s
