No more smoking in public places

COLOMBO: The ban on smoking in public places comes into effect today with a Rs.5000 fine slapped on offenders under the Tobacco and Alcohol Act approved in Parliament.

However, hotels and restaurants will be allowed to allocate separate smoking areas with adequate ventilation. It will also be an offence to sell tobacco products to anyone under 21.
