ABC launches three credit cards

LAUNCH: ABC Credit Card Co Ltd, a member of the ABC Group of Companies was launched last week.

This card as themed "A Truly Sri Lankan card" will reach out to both the urban and rural sector, and will definitely create a niche in the minds of the people. The card is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English and will conform with international specifications and requirements.

The card will additionally carry the photograph of the cardholder for purposes of identification and a special hologram as a security feature.

Transactions on this card can be done in any part of the country through the established merchant network initially aimed at around 1000 outlets, by the season time.

The card will be classified into three (3) categories. Viz: Platinum, Gold and Silver. With the issuance of this card, ABC Credit Card Company Ltd announced the tie-up with two major banking institutions such as Global Payments Asia Pacific Lanka (Pvt) Ltd (HSBC) and HNB.

The Company in its agreement with the banks have entered into terms on POS terminal sharing.

The card will carry a unique feature for the first time in Sri Lanka, where a tailor made system has been designed and developed to suit both back end and front end operation by a leading software developer.

The ABC Group founded in 1984 by John Shiran Dissanayake is today operating within 12 other Limited Liability Companies with Dissanayake at the helm of all these ventures.

In brief the umbrella of the group consist of the container trade, shipping, freight services, export and import trading, plantation, import and distribution, lubricants and other petroleum products, transcargo, travel both inbound and outbound insurance and liner shipping agency.

Chairman Dissanayake initiated the idea of introducing a credit card for the benefit of Sri Lankans. His concept was a truly Sri Lankan Credit Card to be afforded to all citizens of Sri Lanka, after a lapse of 25 years, when a local conglomerate last launched the card in Sri Lanka.

His innovation was exemplary as this card is novel and will be unique to the people of this country.
