Kusumsiri sets new discus record
GAMES: Sri Lanka's Kusumsiri Weerasinghe set up a new record while
competing in the wheelchair athletic event on second day of the Far East
South Pacific Sports Festival of the handicapped continued at the Bukeet
Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur here on Sunday.
Weerasinghe of Sri Lanka Army cleared a distance of 28.95 metres in
the men's wheelchair discus throw while erasing the previous best of
28.10 metres set up by Fan Leon of China in 2002.
Meanwhile Kumudu Priyanka clinched the silver medal in the women's
100 metres sprint event clocking 15.57 seconds. Her teammate Amara
Indumathi came third in the same race with a timing of 15.91 seconds.
In addition Sri Lanka's Shantha Kumara took the gold medal in the
men's 400 metres event returning a timing of 51.66 seconds. In the men's
high jump event Nishantha Perera bagged the silver medal with a
performance of 1.15 metres in the final.
Over four thousand competitors from 63 countries in four different
categories will be vying for honours.
