Ajith's memory will live forever

COLOMBO: Ajith who crossed the steps of Lake House or seen deeply immersed in reading a book at the table assigned to him as the Chief Editor of All English Publications or as the man who spearheaded 'friday', the latest publication of the Lake House Group of Newspapers went silently on his last journey as he used to do, while on the corridors of ANCL, not a hum or hard-pressed feet on the marble floor.

The only difference was that he walked to his grave on the shoulders of his colleagues.

Ajith is no more, but his memory will live for long years to come. He had gone to meet his Creator with the pen in his hand which helped to draw attention of the mighty to the problems of the masses.

A simple man to the letter he moved with top leaders and the ordinary folk in the same way with no difference to any but with deference to all.

The crowd that gathered to bid him farewell for the last time was a mass of people comprising politicians, artists, the elite and the ordinary, who cherished memories of his association. There was deep sorrow manifested and registered in the faces of those who gathered around his coffin. Amidst his colleagues and all editors with whom he had moved and had his deep attachment in

associating them, this time as the sun went down, his casket moved downward embracing the mother earth he loved so much. Life is a memory and one cannot forget it easily.

In that memory Ajith will live in those with whom he had contacts, and those whom he had influenced and inspired by his writings.

May he Rest in Peace.
