DSI Super Sports Volleyball C'ships:

VOLLEYBALL: The finals of all island DSI Super Sports
Inter-School Volleyball Championship for under 16 and 18 Boys and Girls
will take place today at Sugathadasa Stadium commencing at 8.30 a.m.
The championship which attracted the highest number of teams 2301
from all parts of the country in three different age groups. Before
reaching the national level matches were held at District and Provincial
level.
In the under 16 girls section Dammissara National School from
Nattandiya take on St. Mary's College, Pitipana. The third place in this
category was won by Vijayaba National School, Hungama.
Under-16 Boys final will see the clash between Davisamara Vidyalaya,
Seeduwa and Senanayake Madya Maha Vidyalaya from Madampe. This match is
scheduled to commence at 10.00 a.m. Here too the school from Hungama
Vijayaba National School have won the third place.
The under-18 championship final for Girls is scheduled to start at
1.00 p.m. this second session of the day's play will see the Girls
spikers from Eastern Province Mihindupura MV, Trincomalee and Southern
Province spikers from Hambantota District, Vijayaba National School
confront each other for supremacy.
Dammissara National School who were dominating this category last few
years had to be content with the third slot. Dammissara National School,
Nattandiya who has won the DSI Super sports championship on few
occasions will be a strong contender for this year's title.
They will meet Davisamara Vidyalaya which consists of another set of
spikers who are capable of posing a big threat to their opponents in
this final. Davisamara spikers too have done well during the past few
years in this championship.
This final will be fought by two teams that are equally balanced and
none will be able to predict the winner here.
The championship conducted by the Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka
in association with Schools Volleyball Association and also with the
co-operation of the Ministry of Education has received the maximum
support from sponsors DSI Group of Companies.
This is the eighth year the sponsor have taken the responsibility of
the event.
Minister of Education and Higher Education Susil Premjayantha will be
the chief guest today and will give away the awards. Others who will be
present as guests of honour are Jeevan Kumaratunga Minister of Sports,
Dilan Perera President (SLVBF), Nandadasa Rajapakse Chairman DSI Group
of Companies, Ariyaratne Hewage Secretary to the Ministry of Higher
Education, S. Wirithamulla Secretary Ministry of Sports and Hemasiri
Fernando Chairman National Olympic Committee. |
