Sujeewa dominates at Victoria
GOLF: The fifth round of the Victoria Golf Medal Series was
keenly contested recently at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort. The
recent rains did not stop excellent scores being returned in this months
medal.
Sujeewa Lankathilake returning an excellent gross score of 77 off a
handicap of 6 dominated both the gross and net categories on gentlemen's
handicap division one. Whilst young Chamil Wickramasinghe off an
impressive 5 handicap clinched the second position on the leader board
behind Lankathilake with a gross score of 85.
Carding a score of gross 87, Ian Tait was placed in third position,
whilst Sam Gunarathne on a net 80 had to settle for third place behind
Chamil Wickramasinghe on a count back.
In gentlemen's handicap division two Bimal Fernando, playing off a
handicap of 28, stormed home to win the net category with a trail
blazing net 63. Anura Danthanarayana was placed second in the net
category behind Bimal Fernando with a net score of one under par.
Sampath Hemachandra clinched the gross title for the division from
Tony Whitham on a count back returning a gross score of 88. In the run
up to the final medal round in December, there is a surge in numbers for
tournaments.
Many of the regulars at Victoria are seen frequenting the medal
series matches as they stand a good chance of winning 2 Airline Tickets
at the Grand Draw in December.
There was stiff competition amongst the ladies in the respective
divisions. Manori Jayakoddy returning a score of net 74 clinched the
title for the Ladies net division whilst Victoria resident Sonia Boyle
was placed second on the net 77.
In the ladies gross division Boyle turned the tables on Jayakoddy
with one stroke to clinch the title on a gross 93. |
