Cooray appointed to APIHRA
APPOINTMENT: Hiran Cooray, Managing Director of Jetwing
Hotels, has been elected to the Board of Asia Pacific of International
Hotel and Restaurant Association, (APIHRA) a worldwide tourism body
having its headquarters in Paris as Regional Vice President.
Founded in 1946, and officially recognised by the United Nations and
its members are national hotel and restaurant associations throughout
the world, and international and national hotel and restaurant chains
represent about 50 brands.
The rare honour of being the first Sri Lankan to be invited to join
the IH and RA comes at a time the Tourism Industry of the country tries
to remain resilient and continues to remain attractive to international
tourism markets.
His appointment can also be looked as an opportunity for the
country's tourism industry, as Hiran could further his mission of
untiringly promoting Sri Lanka, internationally, that he has being doing
for many years.
Hiran is also the President of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri
Lanka, a Board member of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) as
well as a Co-chairman of the Responsible Tourism Partnership of Sri
Lanka.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, USA and having
followed a senior Management course in Hotel Management at the Cornell
University, Ithaca, New York. |
