Dharme Sri Abeyratne
MULLERIYAWA: Differently abled students of Mulleriyawa 'Sunflower
Village' Children's Home received stationery and other donations
recently by the Welfare Unit of the Ministry of Posts and
Telecommunications to coincide with President Mahinda Rajapaksa's one
year in office.
The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications organised this programme
titled 'Dayata Kirula - Rata Dinana Heta Dinata' to bless the Armed
Forces, Police and the public and 32 handicapped students received
gifts.
Addressing the gathering, the Administrative Manager of Sunflower
Village Children's Home, Ekanayake said that the children's home
symbolises ethnic harmony since the resident children represent all
ethnic groups. They come from every part of the island.
This kind of programme should be highly appreciated so the students
feel that they are not discriminated or neglected by society. These
types of programmes would surely help the children to overcome their
physical disability and act as important persons of society, Ekanayake
pointed out.
"Be a helping hand to us, and encourage us, we will definitely devote
ourselves for the country's well-being", Nisansala Lakmali, a student of
the Sunflower Village said.
The students were given school material and other donations by the
Ministry staff. Ministry's Additional secretary A.S.M.S. Mahanama and
the Ministry staff, teachers and guardians of the Sunflower Village
Children's Home were present.
