Sri Lanka Insurance to promote good driving habits with competition

COMPETITION: Good driving and road etiquette will take the spotlight with the launch of the "Formula Plus Good Driver Competition 2006" organised by the Sri Lanka Insurance and Ceylon Motor Sports Club which is an annual event in the Sri Lanka Insurance calendar.

The competition takes place November 25 at 9 am from Green Path, opposite Viharamahadevi Park and culminate at the Alcatras Car Park at Parliament grounds. The awards ceremony will be held at Waters Edge at 6 pm and the winner will walk away with the "IGP Challenge Trophy" while the best 10 drivers will also be rewarded with prizes.

The competition is a test of driving habits and road values adhered to by motorists and takes into account the observation of road rules and proper etiquette while on the roads. During the competition, drivers are required to drive through a pre-defined route which will test their skills and driving habits - as the competition does not take the form of a road race, speed is not a requirement.

Organisers say unidentified observers would be placed along the route, especially at critical points such as traffic lights, junctions and pedestrian crossings to observe and mark the participants on their driving.

The Formula Plus Good Driver Competition is an initiative aimed at promoting good driving habits among Sri Lankans, and was launched for the first time last year in response to the alarming high motor accident rate recorded in the country.

Chief Operating Officer of Technical, Sri Lanka Insurance Suren Galagoda said, "Sri Lanka is fast becoming notorious for the dangers faced by motorists and pedestrians alike on our roads - and the spate of road accidents has steadily been on the rise over the past few years. This trend must be arrested to safeguard lives and property - and we believe that promoting good driving habits is crucial.

Sri Lanka Insurance is indeed pleased to be associated with the Good Driver competition which strikes the right note with the public - encouraging their participation and introducing an element of entertainment and competition to a very real issue, thereby making it easier to spread the message of 'Good Driving'.

Formula Plus Motor Insurance recently revolutionised the motor insurance industry with the launch of Formula World the state-of-the-art Collision Repair Centre. Formula World offers hassle free motor repairing services assuring safety, expertise, precision and convenience in their repair process.
