Devananda to ease day to day problems in Jaffna
COLOMBO: Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and
Social Welfare left for Jaffna to have first hand experience of the day
to day problems confronting the people of Jaffna peninsula and to
provide with immediate solutions to the existent problems. It is learnt
that the Mission of the Minister has been at the request of the
President.
The prime objective of the Minister's visit to the peninsula is to
take appropriate and efficacious measures to rid off forthwith the
obstructions that have cropped up in the distribution of food and other
essential items to the people and save them from the prevalent crisis
situation. A consignment of urgently needed pharmaceuticals has been
flown into Jaffna District under his instructions.
The Minister who stays at the EPDP office in Jaffna town, is in the
process of holding talks with the higher officials of the Government
Departments, Officers of different disciplines of activity and people,
to arrive at solutions to the burning issues which warrant immediate
solutions prioritising those concerning distribution of food items,
pharmaceuticals and other essential items. He would be there until the
chaotic situation recedes, the communique issued by the Ministry said. |
