CONDOMINIUMS: The Condominium Management Authority (CMA) is
investigating property developers who are unable to provide deeds for
condominium residents.
Acting General Manager of the CMA G.U. Upawansa told Daily News at
the moment the CMA is investigating on ten condominium projects in the
Colombo area. 'We have completed three investigations and for other
developers we have asked to submit reasons for not providing deeds for
the residents', the official said.
The CMA has received several complaints from condominium residents on
property developers who have not provided deeds for them. These projects
were completed sometime back.
These condominium residents complain that they cannot hand over their
apartments to their children without a proper deed.
Upawansa said that some property developers entered into sales
agreements with the residents and take money from them even before
constructing the condominium projects. They utilise these funds for the
projects.
After obtaining approval from the CMA, condominium projects need to
be registered under the land registry to provide deeds for the residents
he said.
Under the Apartment Ownership Act action could be taken against
property developers who are unable to provide deeds for condominium
residents, he said. |
