Hambantota-Katuwana Fort North excavation work begins
HAMBANTOTA: Archaeological excavations under stage one of the
Hambantota-Katuwana Fort North gate excavation programme have now been
started by the excavation unit of the Archaeological Department.
These excavations have been undertaken under the directions of the
Galle Archaeological office under a Netherlands aid scheme, a spokesman
for the department said.

Photo Journalists' Association - new office bearers
COLOMBO: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Photo Journalists'
Association of Sri Lanka was held at the Sri Lanka Press Institute
recently.
At the AGM, the following photo journalists were elected as the new
officers of the Association. President-Sri Lal Gomas (Lakbima),
Secretary- Jude Densil Pathiraja (Divaina) and Treasurer-Gamini
Abeysekera (Lankadeepa).
Sanjeewa Chinthaka (Lakbima) and Saman Mendis (Lake House) were
elected as the Vice Presidents. Kamal Jayamanna (Lake House) was elected
as Deputy Secretary while Saman Jayathilaka (Tharunaya) was elected as
Deputy Treasurer of the Association.
Sena Vidanagama (AFP), Sudath Silva (President's Official
Photographer) and Sriyantha Walpola (The Hindu) were elected as the
Senior Advisors of the Association.

Clarification
COLOMBO: The Public Service Commission has informed that the office
has conveyed the appointment of Dr. Sumith Ananda to the Medical
Superintendent post at the General Hospital, Matara on October 27 and to
say that the PSC has not approved the appointment is incorrect, PSC
Chairman P. R. P. Perera said referring to our news item on November 11.
His statement is as follows:
"The order of the Public Service Commission in regard to the
appointment of Dr. Sumith Ananda to the post of Medical Superintendent,
General Hospital, Matara has been conveyed to the Secretary, Ministry of
Healthcare and Nutrition on the 27th of October 2006."
"As such you may note that your news item to the effect that the
Public Service Commission has not yet approved the filling up of such
vacancy in the post concerned is factually incorrect." |
