Project to develop 100 rural villages

COLOMBO: A project was launched to develop 100 rural villages within
the Madawachchiya Divisional Secretary by the Deputy Minister of Rural
Economic Development Susantha Punchi Nilame. The Ministry has allocated
Rs. 1.5 million for the first phase of this project.
At present 150 farmer families are living in Tulawelliya village but
they do not have proper infrastructure facilities such as roads,
drinking water and electricity. There is a primary school but lacks
teachers and facilities.
According to the Deputy Minister Punchi Nilame a resovior will be
constructed by building a dam across Kanadara Oya.
Under this project which would provide sufficient water for both Yala
and Maha 1000 acres of paddy lands will be cultivated.
The Minister also said that a milk producing village will be
established with 100 cows and he distributed 30 cows among families as
the first step.
A new bus service from Tulawelliya to Madawachchiya was commenced
facilitating a large number of school going children. Construction of a
common well for cultivators and community Centre also commenced.
The porject co-ordinator, King Kusala Gaweshi Association Chairman
Sarath Senanayaka and his staff, Madawachchiya OIC Police Siripala
Muduhetti and a large number of villagers participated at this event.
