CRICKET: A blockbuster knock of 97 with 11 fours and 2 sky scraper
sixes off only 92 deliveries by Trinity College skipper Sachith
Pathirana helped his side to recover from a precarious position in their
schools lemonade Trophy Cricket Tournament match against Kignswood
College which began at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.When Sachith Pathirana
came to the wicket, the Lions were tottering at 19 for 3 which later
became 60 for 5 and the Kignswoodians were threatening to dump the Lions
to a low score.
But Sachith Pathirana had a useful partner in R. Jaleel (25) and this
pair put an 87 for the sixth wicket which helped Trinity to go past the
150 mark. But with his score at 97 Sachith Pathirana in an attempt to
reach his century tried to sweep spinner Prasad Senaratne and was clean
bowled.
With that the Trinitians declared at 157 for 7. But a heavy shower
which fell at 2.15 p.m. forced the match to be called off. Trinity
College 157 for 7 declared in 48.3 overs (Wasika Munasinghe 11, Sachith
Pathirana 97, R. Jaleel 25, Prasad Senaratne 3 for 62, Chalitha
Dharmaprema 2 for 23).
