Weeraratne (4/14) restricts NCC to 221

CRICKET: Kaushal Weeraratne returned excellent figures of four wickets for 14 runs as Ragama CC restricted NCC to 221 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their rain hit SLC Premier Inter-club League Cricket Tournament match which began at FTZ grounds, Katunayake yesterday.

Earlier left hander Kumar Sangakkara stroked a fluent 63 with seven fours and Lasith Fernando hit a fighting 57 with seven fours before NCC lost their way against some penetrative bowling from Weeraratne.

NCC 221 (U. Tharanga 19, K. Sangakkara 63, M. Gajanayake 20, L. Fernando 57, D. Gamage 2 for 37, D. Dharshanpriya 2 for 63, K. Weeraratne 4 for 14, D. Dissanayake 2 for 52).

Ragama CC 56 for 2 (M. Thotuwilage 27 n.o).

BRC well placed

BRC were well placed at 183 for 3 in their first innings on the opening day of their rain hit SLC Premier Iter-club Lague Cricket Tournament match against Panadura SC which began at Havelock Park yesterday.

BRC 183 for 3 (D. Vitharana 86, V. Perera 41, D. Perera 40) v Panadura SC.

Air Force struggle

Sri Lanka Air Force SC struggled to reach 173 for 5 in their first innings on the opening day of their rain hit SLC Premier Inter-club League Cricket Tournament match against Galle CC which began at Rifle Green yesterday.

Air Force SC 173 for 5 (A. Rizan 39, M. Dissanayake 23, R. Mapatuna 33 n.o., A. Kumara 42, M. Abdeen 3 for 36) v Galle CC.

Army in strong position

Sri Lanka Army SC were well set to take a first innings lead after having dismissed Lankan CC for 177 runs on the opening day of their rain hit SLC Premier Inter-club League Cricket Tournament match played at Welisara yesterday.

Lankan CC 177 (R. Priyadarshana 36, D. Gunawardena 32, N. Ratnayake 4 for 32, M. de Soysa 3 for 47).

Army SC 125 for 4 (I. Karunatilleke 66, S. Prasanna 28).

Washed out

The SLC Premier Iter-club Lague Cricket Tournament matches between CCC v Chilaw Marians SC at Braybrooke Place, Bloomfield v NCC at Reid Avenue, Colts CC v Moors SC at Havelock Park and Tamil Union v Baduraliya CC at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium were washed out without a ball been bowled due to heavy overnight rain yesterday.

All matches will resume today weather permitting.
