Five fishermen rescued in Galle

COLOMBO: Five fishermen from Negombo were rescued in the sea of Galle following their fishing trawler colliding with an unidentified ship at 5 a.m. yesterday.

The trawler Seuvanthi carrying the five fishermen from Negombo was on the verge of sinking when its occupants were rescued, Fisheries Ministry sources said.

Navy personnel in the fishing trawler Janaka Putha reached the spot, where the collision occurred and rescued the five fishermen.

The damaged trawler Seuvanthi was abandoned. Investigations are underway identify the vessel, which collided with the trawler, sources said.
