SOLDIERS on duty all over the island, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy, actress Sangeetha Weeraratne, SSP Neville Guruge, the late Col. Tuan Nizam Muthaliff, EPDP leader Douglas Devananda, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Merril J. Fernando of Dilmah, men guarding VIPs' houses, Deshamannya Dr. Lalith Kotelawala, the late Naleem Hajiar, Stassen Chairman Harry Jayawardena, JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa, the late MP N. Raviraj and Col. Faiz-ur Rahman are among the new entrants for the Daily News Sri Lankan of the Year 2006.

We have received e-mails from New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Liberia, USA, Dubai and all over Sri Lanka.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is leading the Daily News Sri Lankan of the Year 2006.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, late Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, TULF leader V. Anandasangaree, Justice Christopher Weeramantry, Prof. Harendra de Silva, Prof. Sriyal Malik Pieris, who discovered the SARS virus, Mano Ganeshan, cricket star Muttiah Muralitharan, late Kethesh Loganathan, Deputy SCOPP chief, a soldier helping a fallen four legged victim, Sarvodaya leader Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne, Ihsaniyya Arabic College Director General Alhaj Niyas Moulavi, one man cricket cheer squad Percy Abeysekera, Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena, Weightlifter Chintana Vitanage, Dialog Telekom Limited CEO Dr. Hans Wijesuriya and Hirdaramani Group Director Anil Hirdaramani have also received votes.
