Four new entrants
A soldier helping a fallen four legged victim, Sarvodaya leader Dr.
A.T. Ariyaratne, Ihisaui Arabic College Chairman Alhaj Niyas Mowlavi and
one man cricket cheer squad Percy Abeysekera are the four new entrants
for the Daily News Sri Lankan of the Year 2006.
Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka and Air Force Commander Air
Vice Marshal Roshan Gunatillake requested to be excluded from the Daily
News Sri Lankan of the Year 2006 vote saying it was not appropriate for
Forces Commanders to be made participants.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is leading the Daily News Sri Lankan of
the Year 2006.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, late Minister Lakshman
Kadirgamar, former UN Under Secretary General Jayantha Dhanapala, TULF
leader V. Anandasangaree, Justice Christopher Weeramantry, Prof.
Harindra Fernando, Prof. Sriyal Malik Pieris, who discovered the SARS
virus, Mano Ganeshan, cricket star Muttiah Muralitharan and the late
Kethesh Loganathan, Deputy SCOPP chief have also received votes.
We will be accepting your votes right up to December 31, 2006 and
announcing the winner in January 2007. You too can make your voice heard
as we trust our readers to nominate the Sri Lankan most deserving of the
accolade 'Sri Lankan of the Year'.

entry to only one nomination for Sri Lankan of the Year.
