Keeping public alert
Kapila Somarathna, Panadura group corr.
INGIRIYA: Leut: Col: Nandana Thalagahawattha, Sri Lanka Army, said
the corporation and assistance of the general public is essential to
eradicate terrorism from the country providing information about the
LTTE terrorists roaming all over Sri Lanka.
He was addressing a gathering at Deepaloka temple to make the public
aware of the security situation in Ingiriya Police area.
He said that peace and calm prevailed in the old society had been
disappeared. Hand grenades and claymore bombs had come forward to
destroy the modern society.
Now, LTTE has launched the fourth Elam war and armed forces has taken
the control of the situation and marched forward bravely to cripple the
strong holds of the LTTE.
Most of the people believe that the LTTE strongholds are impregnable,
but the armed forces and the police have broken the backbone of the
LTTE. The army had launched operations to eradicate terrorism from the
North and East.
Therefore it is very essential the corporation and assistance of the
general public for the armed forces and police to strengthen the morale
of the members of the armed forces and the police serving at the battle
ground.
Leut: Col: Thalgahawattha said last month at Wattla three hard-core
tigers were arrested due to the corporation and assistance rendered by
the public in the area. If not, a disaster would have taken place.
To get the support of the public, it is very essential that
committees must be appointed to supervise arrests in every police
station.
There the general public must be on vigilance.
The armed forces and police must inform the three-wheeler drivers,
private bus crews and the officers responsible for public transport to
be vigilant in particular areas.
