LTTE attack repulsed

VALACHCHENAI: The Army successfully repulsed an LTTE attack on a
security foot patrol in Wantaramulla Road, Valachchenai around 2 pm
yesterday, Defence Media spokesman told the "Daily News".
It is believed that the LTTE suffered heavy casualties on the return
fire. The Army also found one T 56 weapon and three magazines left by
the fleeing terrorists.
Meanwhile, a Special Task Force member was killed in a claymore
explosion at the 12th mile post located between Ampara and Pottuvil, at
7.30 pm on Saturday defence sources said.
The explosion took place when a team of STF men were on their routine
patrol travelling on a jeep. Two other STF men were injured and now they
have been treated at the Ampara General Hospital, sources said.
