VALACHCHENAI: The Army successfully repulsed an LTTE attack on a security foot patrol in Wantaramulla Road, Valachchenai around 2 pm yesterday, Defence Media spokesman told the "Daily News".

It is believed that the LTTE suffered heavy casualties on the return fire. The Army also found one T 56 weapon and three magazines left by the fleeing terrorists.

Meanwhile, a Special Task Force member was killed in a claymore explosion at the 12th mile post located between Ampara and Pottuvil, at 7.30 pm on Saturday defence sources said.

The explosion took place when a team of STF men were on their routine patrol travelling on a jeep. Two other STF men were injured and now they have been treated at the Ampara General Hospital, sources said.
