COLOMBO: The Colombo District Secretariat will issue new registration
certificates of births, marriages and deaths using modern Information
Technology (IT) under the guidance of the Home Affairs Ministry.
The public could receive their Certificates of Births, Marriages and
Deaths within five minutes, Colombo District Secretary P. J. A.
Silvester said at a press conference held at the Colombo District
Secretariat.
He said that more than 60,000 original certificates are being
gathered at the stores at the 13 Divisional Secretariats.
Silvester pledged even though after implementing the new computer
aided system, the originals will be preserved at a secured place.
The new system was initially implemented in the Divisional
Secretariats of Colombo, Thimbirigasyaya, Dehiwala, Ratmalana and
Moratuwa.
Journalists were also afforded the opportunity to visit the places
where the electronic scanning process is taking place.
The District Secretary said that he was hopeful that the new issuing
system would be launched on December 21 from the Colombo Divisional
Secretariat.
