Lanka's first natural gas power plant in Mirissa
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's first natural gas power plant will be set
up in Mirissa in the Southern Province with Iranian assistance.
This 300 mega watt power plant is being set up under the Government's
alternative energy development project as a solution to the energy
crisis. It will also introduce LNG technology to Sri Lanka, considered a
natural source of energy without any harmful effects to the environment.
Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne was due to leave for
Iran accompanied by a Ministry delegation for a technological study tour
regarding the proposed power plant, the Power and Energy Ministry said
yesterday.
During this tour undertaken on the official invitation of the Iranian
Government, Seneviratne will meet the Iranian Power and Energy Minister,
Officials of the Iranian Energy Authority and several other experts in
the Energy sector and discuss the proposed Energy Development plan for
solving Sri Lanka's Energy crisis with them. |
