Lanka invited to set-up gem testing lab in Malaysia
GEM LAB: Malaysia has invited Sri Lanka to establish a Gem
Testing and Certification Laboratory in Malaysia.
Sri Lanka participated in the 12th Malaysia International Jewelex
show which was held recently. The Sri Lankan High Commission in Malaysia
had organised meetings for the Sri Lankan delegation with three chambers
in Malaysia. These chambers invited Sri Lanka to establish a Gem Testing
and Certification Laboratory there.

Senior Manager (Export and Export Promotion) of the National Gem and
Jewellery Authority (NGJA) Ajith Perera said the delegation led by the
Chairman of the NGJA Hasitha Tillekeratne met the Malay Chamber of
Commerce, The Associate Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Malaysia ACCCIM and Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce
and Industry.
The local gemmologists will work in this laboratory and Malaysian
trade will provide the necessary infrastructure for the project.
During the meetings the delegation discussed ways of improving
bilateral trade in the gem and jewellery sector in both countries.
There were 12 local participants at the Jewelex show. They were able
to promote and create business links with buyers from over 20 countries.
The show was an ideal platform for local industrialists to develop
business opportunities in Malaysia, he said.
