Dilantha Malagamuwa placed seventh in China
MOTOR RACING: Dilanth Malagamuwa Sri Lanka's only participant in the
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia competing in the 10th and 11th stages of the
Championshio which was conducted in the Zhuhai, China fimished seventh
in the eleventh stage.
Earlier in the day Dilantha had a mishap in the tenth stage when he
met with an accident and had to pull out of the event inthe first lap
itself. His pull out in this race caused many problems as his vehicle
needed much attention.
However the mechanics involved with him got the got the Car in to
fine shape and Dilantha managed to be at the atart line in time for the
event.
But Dilantha had to to start at the back of the grid (behind
seventeen drivers). This handicap he had to undertgo as he ouldnot
finish the early stage of the race.
Dilantha showed his capability and experience behind him came into
his assistance at this vital stage. He overtook ten drivers during the
twelve lap race and received the chequered flag at the seventh slot.
Dilantha says if the accident did not occur he could have easily be
among the top three drivers or have won the event which also put him
closer to the championship. But the gutty Lankan driver says that he
will definitely do better in the net stage to be held in Macau on
November 19.
He hopes compete in the next year's championship and to win the same
to bring the cahampionship to Sri Lanka.
Malaysia championship
Meanwhile in the Malaysia Super Car Championship Dilantha is placed
second in the overall standings with 12 points behind the leader. He
failed to compete in the last two rounds of the event as it clashed with
the PorscheCarrera Cup Championship events which was held recentl in
China.
He will compete in the final round on November 26 which consists of
two rounds.
He hopes to compete in these two rounds and to achieve victory to
collect maximun of points to win the championship.
He is confident of gaining these vital points if everything goes ell
for him.
Meanwhile he has been invited by the organisrs to participate in the
Asia Super Car event to be held in Zhuhai, China in December and also to
compete in the Dubai 24 Hour Race to be held on January 12 and 13, 2007
with an Australian team of drivers. - BP
