FCB felicitates brave civilians

COLOMBO: The Foundation for Civilian Bravery (FCB) will felicitate 10 civilians with Bravery Awards today at 3.30 p.m. at the BMICH for their unbiased and dedicated service in protecting the people from dangers they faced.

The felicitation ceremony will be chaired by FCB Chairman K. P. Chandrakantha.

The Australian High Commissioner Dr. Greg French will be the chief guest and Lieutenant Colin Bannister, General Secretary of Royal Human Society will be the guest of honour.

Prof. Carlo Fonseka, Justice C.G. Weeramanthri and S. Pathmanathan have been invited to address the ceremony.

Nilwala overflowing

MATARA: The Nilwala river and its tributaries are in spate following the incessant rains. Low-lying areas in Malimbada, Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya, Athuraliya and Akuressa divisional secretariat divisions and a number of roads in the Matara district have been submerged.

Number of houses in Kadduwa submerged and one house at Indurukawa Malimbada has completely damaged due to earth slip.

The villagers living along the Nilwala basin fear a major flood if rains continue.

Book launch

COLOMBO: The Sinhala translation of Mark Twain's `The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Tom Sawyer saha Hakalbarige Hapankam" by Chandra Anagirathne will be launched on October 31 at 10.00 am at the Book Exhibition Hall of the Dayawansa Jayakody and Company at Ven. S. Mahinda Mawatha, Colombo.

Father seeks help for son's surgery

POLWATTA: Akindu, 2 1/2 year old son of Asoka B.Gamage of Polwatta has to undergo operation for cochlear implant to cure from dull of hearing. This will cost about Rs.2.3 million to Rs.2.8 million.

Gamage, an Assistant Health Manager at Lady Ridgeway hospital seek the generous support of the public to raise necessary funds.

Those willing are kindly requested to deposit their contributions to A/c No 0820 - 01964396-101 of Seylan Bank, Borella branch or to A/c No.320-2-011-6-3580974 of People's Bank, Borella branch.

Missing

BUTHPITIYA: Niroshi Ann Nishanthi Ratnayake, 19, of 305/61, Uruwala, Buthpitiya, is missing since April 27, last year. She is five feet in height, well nourished and fair in complexion. A scar in the middle of forehead.

She was wearing a floral designed pair of ear-studs and a black flared long skirt and a pink T-shirt when last seen. Any information of her whereabouts may be informed to the Child and Women's Affairs Bureau, Police Headquarters, Colombo, or on No. 011-2392488.
