Best A/L students get excellence awards

COLOMBO: The students who obtained the best results at the GCE
Advanced Level Examination in 2006, received 'The Presidential Award of
Excellence' on Thursday (26), from President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a
ceremony at the Temple Trees.
Madhavi Fernando of Girls High School, Kandy who achieved highest
marks in Arts scheme, Manudha Herath of Royal College, Colombo in
Mathematics Rasanga Abhishek of Nalanda College, Colombo in Commerce,
and Harsha Dissanayake of Nalanda College, Colombo in Biology were
offered scholarships by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Secretary to
the President Lalith Weeratunga distributed certificates.
Meanwhile, the President advised to his secretary to offer Rs. 25,000
per student who are successful at the examination for their further
studies.
This programme was jointly organised by the Independent Television
Network (ITN) and Lak Handa Radio and financial assistance were offered
by the Doramadalawa Fund of ITN.
Secretary of Media Ministry W.B. Ganegala, Chairman of ITN and Lak
Handa Anura Siriwardena, Principals, parents and students of many
schools participated in the occasion.
