National Law Week October 30 - November 05
COLOMBO: On the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the week
from October 30 to November 05 has been declared as the National Law
Week, announced a media release by the Ministry of Justice and Law
Reforms last week.
The Justice Ministry in collaboration with the Bar Association of Sri
Lanka has organised a series of seminars and an exhibition titled
"Ability of Access to Law" at Bandaranaike Memorial International
Conference Hall commencing on November 02 at 10 a.m. under the auspices
of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The National Law Week programme implemented jointly by the Ministry
of Justice, Attorney-General's Department, Legal Draughtsman's
Department, Government Analyst's Department, the Law Commission, and the
Department of Prisons is motivated to make the public familiarize with
the Law.
The exhibition to be held in the BMICH consists of 100 display
cubicles and the seminars are expected to be lectured by eminent legal
experts on the subjects of sustenance of law, the Citizen's rights,
duties and privileges under a law abiding society and human rights.
Parallel to the main event, the Legal Aid Forum of the Sarvodaya
Movement is expecting to hold legal clinics at selected centres in the
country to provide legal advice to the public free of charges.
The inaugural session under the patronage of the President will be
attended by Chief Justice Sarath N.Silva, Justice and Law Minister
Amarasiri Dodangoda, Deputy Minister Dilan Perera, Ministry Secretary
Suhada K.Gamlath and Heads of Departments and Institutions affiliated to
or under the Ministry of Justice.
