Renown Sports Club that keeps to its name
The Renown Sports Club saw its birth in the year 1981 Subash Peiris
as its Founder President. This also became the seond soccer club to
emerge from soccer crazy Kotahena. It also had a very enthusiatic crowd
backing the club to reach great heights in a very short period of time.
The Youth of the are got all the support needed to improve their
standards. This generous support extended by the football loving public
of Kotahena saw the Club become a great force in the local soccer scene.
The achieve this success there was the the club had the services of
ta great Technical advisor and coach Edward Jayawardene. Jayawardene who
had the German Technical knowledge of football helped this team win many
major throphies on offer in the locla scene.
Canute Peiris took over the reigns of the Club after his brother
Subash and continues to date. During his term which still continues had
the services of the present national skipper Dudley Steinwal and many
national stars. The club achieved many successes with these players
doing services. It is unfortunate to state that at present few of their
battle hardened players have move to other clubs looking for greener
pastures.
Though the situation is such the club has introduced players from
their youth pool as replacements. With these players gaining more
experience the club expect do well in the major tournamentsea in the
future.
M. Faiz who holds a AFC 'B' serves the as their coach, while he gets
the services T. Fernando who is the clubs physical instructor.
The Club situated at 341, Sea Street, Colombo 11 has Stanley Rayer as
its Secretary and Royston Fernando the Treasurer. The Club got
affiliated to the Football Federation in the year 1981.
Sri Lanka's goal keeper S.D. Tillekeratne, Chapa Suriyaarachchi,
Dimuthu Hettiarachchi, Dilan Perera and M.V. Baskan are the players in
the national pool.
