Singer to sponsor 'Fashion Designer of the Year' for second consecutive year

Singer Sri Lanka which has made it a rule to associate its brand name with prestigious events has come forward this year too as the main sponsor of the Fashion Designer of the Year competition.

With its wide repertoire as training women to excel in sewing and needlecraft using the latest sewing machines keeping to trends that are current and in vogue the world over, it is only apt that an organisation of its calibre ties up with one Sri Lanka's annual shows, which opens its doors to a vast amount of new talent in the fashion field.

The annual Fashion Designer of the Year contest will go on stage at the BMICH on November 30, Chula Nanaykkara Ariyaratne the live wire behind this annual show that keeps amateur designers attracted to it in a big way, said that amongst the many attractions they are presenting that evening beside the Latin American dance presentation is the grand performance by the leading Dancer Chandana and his troupe.

Chandana Wickramasinghe who has made a name for himself as a versatile and innovative choreographer has performed at some of the prestigious events held in Colombo this year. He together with his troupe has travelled widely both in the West and in many Eastern countries performing and proving their metal as a foremost dance troupe capable of keeping audiences of all levels entertained.

The entire show will be dedicated to the memory of late Sujatha Jayawardena, who in fact was the dance guru of Chula, who also added that the trophy which will be presented that evening will be in the memory of her guru.

The show with its main sponsor Singer Fashion Academy has DHL as the co-sponsor. Media sponsors are the Daily News and the Sunday Observer along with Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation coming in with electronic media coverage.

Fashion Designer of the Year 2006 will have four sections open to the 19 selected contestants to prove their designing skills through.

Casual wear, Office wear, Sari and evening wear will be the four sections and looking at the talent that has already gone under the view of a panel of judges with leading fashion designer Keerthi Sri Karunaratne at the helm of it, the final presentation at the BMICH seems to be growing into an exciting event.

Tickets for the event are available at all Singer mega showrooms and at Ramzi's Salon.
