Seven Tigers surrender

Seven LTTE cadres including three underage cadres, escaped from the Kathirveli LTTE camp in Batticaloa and surrendered at the Kallar road block in Trincomalee yesterday.

KALLAR: Seven LTTE cadres including three underage cadres, escaped from the Kathirveli LTTE camp in Batticaloa and surrendered at the Kallar road block in Trincomalee yesterday.

A spokesman for the Media Centre for National Security told the Daily News last night that four cadres aged 17, one cadre aged 15 and two aged 19 and 20 were among the LTTE cadres who surrendered at the Kallar road block yesterday at 6.30 p.m.

According to those who surrendered, the LTTE had forcibly recruited 86 of them including 30 of them aged below 14 as the LTTE was running short of man power during the Mavilaru operation. The seven cadres had escaped from the Kathirveli LTTE camp as could not tolerate the punishment given to them by the senior cadres.

According to their statements, most of the LTTE recruits surrendered to the Security Forces as they constantly fear about air strikes and Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher attacks on LTTE camps.
