CRICKET: The annual cricket tournament conducted by Colombo District
Cricket Association for CDCA Trophy get under way on November 15.
This is the 13th consecutive year CDCA is conducting this tournament
among the cricket clubs in Colombo District. CDCA Tournament had always
been a hard fought and popular tournament boosting the enthusiasm of the
cricket loving public including the lesser known clubs.
Handsome cash prizes and trophies are given to the winning clubs and
the best individual performers. In the last year's tournament Moors SC
annexed the CDCA Trophy while Rogers SC finished runner-up.
This year's tournament has attracted 64 Colombo District Clubs who
will play in 16 groups in the first round 32 clubs would qualify to the
second round and the last 16 clubs would compete in the final round
played on knock-out basis.
The tournament committee of CDCA has added a new feature for this
year's tournament by planning a match between the champions and the rest
at the conclusion of the finals. It has been decided by the Colombo IX
'A' to select a district team based on the performances in this
tournament and afford them a foreign tour to a neighbouring country for
a series of matches. The CDCA believes that this would give lot of
impetus to young cricketers to perform at a much higher level.
The CDCA is also planning to assist its member clubs financially to
playing the tournament and have already written to them seeking
information on their needs.' |
