Disabled soldiers hone skills in crafts

COLOMBO: The National Design Centre and the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Panagoda organised a skills development training under the rehabilitation and welfare programme for soldiers affected by war. This programme will enhance their economy while uplifting their living standards.

About 25 disabled have been trained in the production of coir, cane, bamboo, leather and pottery craft items.

A certificate awarding ceremony for the trainees who completed the above training will be held at National Design Centre, Katubedda on October 31. Rural Industries and Self-Employment Promotion Minister S.B. Nawinna will be the chief guest.

Arrangements have been made to award the diploma certificates for the students who have completed the Diploma in design of National Design College and for those who have completed the skills development programmes organised by the National Design Centre with the assistance of other government and non-government organizations.
