KDCA K/o tourney attracts 18 teams

CRICKET: Eighteen cricket playing clubs affiliated to the Kandy District Cricket Association (KDCA) will participate in the inter club knock out cricket organised and sponsored by the Kandy District Cricket Association which will get under way this Sunday at two venues.

This was disclosed to the media by the Honorary Secretary of the Kandy District Cricket Association Roland Perera at a media briefing held this week.

The clubs which have entered this tournament are Sylvestrians CC, Kandy Youths CC, University of Peradeniya, Old Trinitians Sports Club, Kandy Cricket Club, Old Rajans SC, Sutherland Cricket Club, Old Antonians Sports Club, Gampola Cricket Club,Saracens Cricket Club, Visuvious Cricket Club, Goli Oya, Madawela United Cricket Club, Blue Universal Cricket Club, Prisons Sports Club, Galagedera Cricket Club, Kandy Municipal Sports Club, Ceylon Tobacco Company Sports Club (Kandy Branch), and Commercial Bank Sports Club.

Ceylon Tobacco SC will make their re-appearance in this tournament after some time. This is an encouraging factor.

Roland Perera also said that Kandy District CA has found the funds to sponsor this tournament and they will be meeting the umpires fees, the cost of cricket balls and also paying the ground hire charges.

The tournament committee will also book the grounds. Thus the clubs will have to meet the expenses in respect of lunch and tea. This will help the clubs to meet major part of the expenses in playing their matches. This was welcomed by the clubs.
