Weapons cache seized in Jaffna

JAFFNA: A haul of weapons was recovered by the Army following
a tip off by civilians in Chandilipai, Jaffna on Thursday around 10.35
a.m.
According to the Army, soldiers were deployed on a cordon and search
operation following a tip off received from a civilian. The troops
recovered a haul of arms, ammunition and various equipment hidden inside
the roof of an abandoned house.
When the Army reached the area a group of LTTE cadres opened fire and
the Army retaliated killing an LTTE cadre, the sources said. Troops
recovered four hand grenades, four T-56 riffles, six magazines of T-56,
350 rounds of ammunition, a 9mm micro pistol, a radio set, two claymore
devices, a remote control device, an improvised explosive device and 48
rounds of micro-pistol ammunition from the area. |
