'Mahinda Chintana ensures every citizen owns plot of land'

COLOMBO: The Mahinda Chintana upholds the right of every citizen in this country to own a plot of land of his or her's. The Urban Development Ministry is in the process of making this a reality, said Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

He was addressing members of low income families in Nivanthipura, Mirihana at a ceremony held at his Ministry to mark the presentation of title deeds to their homes on October 17.

Gunawardene said his Ministry had also launched several poverty alleviation programs to mark "International Day for Poverty Alleviation" which fell on that day. The UPFA government has launched new development programmes from the day it assumed office as it considered development as a challenge which had to be overcome with all means.

The government was always committed to insure the people's right to live by providing them with housing, health, drinking water and other facilities needed for a decent living.

The Minister also requested the beneficiary families who received title deeds to safeguard their abodes and bequeath them to their children.

Deputy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Urban Development Authority Chairman Maj. Gen. Prasanna Dahanayake and Maharagama UC member Thushara Dissanayake were also present.
