Biggest jackpot winner donates Rs.1 m to Defence Fund

Martin who received his cheque for Rs. 60 million from President Mahinda
Rajapaksa yesterday at Temple Trees in turn donated Rs. 1 million to the
National Defence Fund (NDF).
Martin told President Rajapaksa that he made the donation considering
security situation in the country and his desire to help the President's
development plans. He handed over the cheque to President Rajapaksa.
Martin, a father of four and a gem miner by profession in Pelmadulla,
was the winner of Mahajana Sampatha draw no. 1858, the highest ever
jackpot in Sri Lanka's lottery history.
The National Lotteries Board (NLB) also made a Rs.500,000 donation to
the National Defence Fund. Chairman Upali Liyanage handed over this
cheque to the President. |
