Ratnam, NYSC and Blue Star on equal terms

SOCCER: Negombo Youth SC and Ratnam SC who are engaged in a battle to
be on top of the Kit Premier League Soccer Championship could not make
any headway when they drew their game two all on Saturday at CR & FC
ground. The other team fighting to get ahead these two teams is Blue
Star from Kalutara. At present all three teams are on equal points (13).
Negombo Youth SC got their goals through national players G.P.C.
Karunaratne and E.B. Channa, while both goals for Ratnam SC came from
the boot of Kasun Jayasuriya also a national player.
Meanwhile, Saunders SC who are making a strong comeback this season
had the better of Sri Lanka Army when they beat them two goals to nil.
This victory by the Petah Club put them closer to the leaders. The only
foreigner who plays for Saunders Michael Klemm and Mohamed Amanulla the
former strong man in the national team scored for the winners. Another
recognised Club from Colombo Renown Sports Club went down to lesser
known York SC from Kandy two goals to nil at Bogambara stadium.
Gampola Red Sun SC came out winners in a Segment 'B' match when they
outplayed high riding Old Bens SC 2-1 at M.H. Mohamed ground, Borella.
B.N. Devinda and P.Jayaratne booted goals for winners while A.R.C.
Wallace scored the solitary goal for the losers.
Java Lane Sports Club defeated Matara SC four goals to nil at City
League ground over the weekend. Java Lane SC's attack was too tough and
the visitors had no answer to it. Matara SC never showed any signs of
improvement in their defence to halt the Java Lane strikers from
scoring. Janaka Chaminda (2) M.N.N. Meena and S.S.M. Rizwan booted goals
for the winners.
The other segment 'B' match between New Young SC and Golden Star SC
saw the latter come out as victors 1-0. P.D.G.R. Premasinghe got the
winning goal for New Young SC. |
