Rs. 845 m allocated for development of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry will
develop the infrastructure facilities in Colombo South Teaching
Hospital. Development work commenced on Thursday with the participation
of Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Alawi Maulana, Governor of the Western Province and A. H. M. Fowzie,
Minister of Transport were also present. The Ministry of Healthcare and
Nutrition expects to develop the Colombo South Teaching Hospital and
Colombo North Teaching Hospital to minimise the patients who come to the
Colombo National Hospital.
Under the directions of the Health Minister, the Ministry was
allocated Rs. 845 million to developing the Colombo South Teaching
Hospital. Minister de Silva laying the foundation stone for
multi-storied building said that the Government will launch many
development programmes for Health Sector development.
A nine storied complex that would house the Cardiology, Neurology,
Genitor Urinary Surgery, Gastro Intestinal Surgery Units, a Laboratory
Complex, a well equipped Blood Bank and for other supporting services
will be established in the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
He stated that this project is a remarkable achievement in Health
Sector development as it would provide the required service not only for
the Western Province, but also for the Southern and Sabaragamuwa
Provinces despite numerous challenges.
The Government has been able to invest a substantial amount of funds
to improve the quality of health provided to the people of Sri Lanka
through such projects, states a Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition
press release.
On Thursday, work began on the some of the development projects in
the Kalubowila Hospital such as the Rs. 400 million worth proposed new
nine storied building, Rs. 14 million Medico-Legal building Complex, Rs.
320 million eight storied building the Rs. 14 million. |
