IGP lauds Traffic Police

COLOMBO: IGP Victor Perera yesterday commending the service of the Traffic Police said personnel attacked to this branch work under trying conditions breathing dust and vehicle exhaust fumes and braving the elements without concern to their health.

Speaking at the passing out of officers who completed the 10th Junior Traffic Management Course conducted by the Traffic Police, held at the Police Headquarters the IGP said that the Traffic Police played a vital role in preserving law and order.

"One of my objectives is to elevate low rank officers to higher ranks according to their performance. I have no intention of transferring Police officers in haphazard fashion", the IGP said.

"Traffic Police officers when they serve at a particular station receive valuable training and they will improve with experience. If we transfer them at every turn they will lose their skills.

Therefore, I have no intention to transfer them except under extreme circumstances," he remarked". 38 Traffic Police officers who took part in the course received certificates. Senior DIG Jayantha Wickramaratne also participated in the event.
