IGP Chandra Fernando retires

COLOMBO: Inspector General of Police Chandra Fernando steps
down from his duties today after serving as IGP for 2 years and ten
days.
Having joined the Police service as an ASP in December 1971, he was
elevated to the post of DIG in February 1991. He was appointed IGP on
October 01, 2004 as 29th IGP succeeding Indra de Silva.
He is a former student of St.Peter's College and Thurstan College,
Colombo.
Fernando obtained a degree in Modern History from the Vidyodaya
University and an LLB degree from the Open University.
DIG Victor Perera will succeed him as the 30th IGP from tomorrow. |
